Common Causes of Dry Skin

skin

Skin that is dry is often tight and uncomfortable. Add a surge of long-lasting hydration to your dry skin with the following key skin care tips.

    • Age

As we age, our bodies produce less sebum (oil) and our skin becomes thinner and drier. A decrease in sebum production means fewer lipids (or fats), filling the gaps between cells in the skin barrier, making it easier for water to evaporate from the skin.

    • Long, Hot Showers and Baths

Showers longer than 10 minutes are more likely to lead to dry skin, especially if the water temperature is hot.

    • Climate

If you live in a sy, like the mountains or desert, your skin is more likely to be dry due to the lack of moisture in the air.

    • Chronic Skin Conditions

There are two common skin conditions that can cause dry skin:

      • Eczema—a condition in which the skin becomes inflamed or irritated
      • Psoriasis—a chronic inflammatory skin disease

Seek the professional guidance of a dermatologist if you suffer from these skin conditions.
