Step Inside A Microclimate
How many different climates are you exposed to over the course of one day? From your morning shower to an air-conditioned office to the cabin of an airplane, women today can go through as many as eight unique microclimates over the course of a day. Over time, exposure to these mini atmospheric fluctuations can cause skin to malfunction, leading to a breakdown in its moisture barrier. As a result, skin becomes dry as it loses its ability to effectively hold on to moisture.

Olay Quench Body Lotion creates a microclimate for your skin, effectively shielding it from these ever-changing atmospheric fluctuations. Quench is drawn deep into the skin’s surface to repair the moisture barrier and nourish with moisture to strengthen skin’s resilience against everyday drying conditions, thus breaking the annoying Cycle of Dry Skin.

What Is the Cycle of Dry Skin?
The Cycle of Dry Skin is a degenerative cycle that begins when environmental factors, primarily low humidity, cause the skin to become dehydrated. This compromises the skin’s moisture barrier and creates a disruption in the delicate arrangement of lipids between the cells of the stratum corneum. This, in turn, leads to a loss of “natural moisturizing factors” (NMF), a specific group of amino acids that act as internal humectants within stratum corneum cells.

Once the moisture barrier is disrupted, the skin begins to dehydrate even faster. A frenzy of skin cell overproduction takes place in an effort to compensate for the disrupted barrier. Meanwhile, the skin’s natural renewal process (exfoliation) slows. The result is a thickening of the skin as old cells accumulate on top of one another, forming the brittle, flaking layer we know as dry skin.

The Cycle of Dry Skin inhibits skin’s ability to:

  • HYDRATE itself
  • RENEW (exfoliate) its outer layers
  • REPLENISH the stratum corneum’s natural moisturizing factors
  • REPAIR its moisture barrier

How Do We Break the Cycle? Quench It.

Olay researchers have spent years developing this unique blend of Quench ingredients designed to address the four factors that are critical to ending the Cycle of Dry Skin.

The Olay Quench AminoVitamin Complex creates a microclimate that envelopes skin and provides the necessary buffer zone to help properly HYDRATE, RENEW, REPLENISH and REPAIR the stratum corneum. Nourishing hydrators work to block the loss of water and help to restore the lipid barrier of the skin. The result is a strong, essentially impermeable moisture barrier that will protect your healthy skin from future atmospheric environmental changes, keeping skin hydrated, supple and radiant.

Olay Quench goes beyond simple moisturization. It can actually prevent dryness by not only providing an immediate burst of moisture that continues for 24 hours, but also by strengthening the moisture barrier to maintain replenished skin. With regular use, you can even skip a day!

Put Quench to the Test.
In clinical testing, Olay Quench delivered against the combination of all four factors needed to break the Cycle of Dry Skin:

HYDRATE — Quench dramatically improved stratum corneum hydration faster and to a greater extent during the first several uses than four leading extra dry skin body moisturizers.

RENEW — Quench significantly enhanced stratum corneum renewal rate. In fact, Quench was more effective than two leading products tested.

REPLENISH — Quench helped replenish the amino acids that constitute skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMFs). These NMFs help bind water in skin’s surface.

Quench helps replenish the amino acids in your skin’s surface.

REPAIR — Quench repairs skin’s moisture barrier improved stratum corneum barrier function better than several leading body lotions.

Finally, we asked women to give up Quench for a week to see how long the benefits would last. After almost one week of not using Quench, nearly three-quarters of the women surveyed said “they still did not notice dry flakes” and nearly two-thirds felt their overall skin health had improved.
